Elecampane

Inula helenium

Clafrllys mawr
also known as
Marchalan y llwyglas (Welsh)

Elecampane is a striking perennial garden plant growing to five feet or more in height and bearing sunflower-like flowers. It has a number of historical uses as a root vegetable, and as a cough and acne remedy.

In the garden the flowers are an excellent bee and butterfly attractant. Elecampane grows very well in West Wales an is a stunning addition to the back of the herb border or as a feature plant. The photo above was taken in our garden at Motygido.
